Are you a big nerd who thinks making video games is more fun than playing them? Do you dream
about space ships? Do you have some spare time and are just looking for a project to become
a part of? Do you have a lot of spare money you want to invest? Well then have I got a
story for you!
Kidding of course, but I am interested to hear from you if you'd like to help out. There's all
kinds of interesting projects available for people with a range of skills who want to be a part
of what could be a cool
game. Here are a few roles you might be interested in:
- 3D artist. Would you like to model space ships, space stations, asteroids, or other Sci-fi
based stuff? It currently takes me about 5 days to make a simple ship so I could REALLY use
your help. This field is pretty much open ended, feel free to dream up whatever you want.
- 2D artist. Do you like painting space scenes? How about making textures for space ships,
stations and everything else. I can't paint to save my life so you'd be doing me a huge favour.
- Networking development. There is currently no network component to Rift, but there could be.
I have big dreams to make it an online game, but so far no time to actually open any sockets.
This is another one of those wide open fields, yours for the taking.
- Handheld development. I've always thought it would be cool to have some kind of handheld
aspect to the game. Maybe you can manage your investments, buy and sell goods, or give orders
to your underlings from the convenience of your mobile phone or PDA? I have nothing but nutty
ideas in this field and no development experience.
- Engine development. If you just generally like the idea of maintaining math, physics,
windowing, and 3D libraries then maybe you'd like to work on the REngine. Maybe you can
even adapt it for your own project.
- Game development. For those who just want to work on aspects of the game itself. Maybe
you like AI or UI. Maybe you want to create mission scripts. There are all kinds of things
to be done on the existing game.
Those are just some ideas. I hope to tackle all of them through the years, but they'd be done
a lot sooner with your help. Feel free to drop me a line if you're interested. My email address
